What’s On: Big Bang Theory

To 18 March, Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre, New Plymouth

Renowned for his kinetic sculpture and cinematic creations, multimedia artist Len Lye was also a prolific painter throughout his career. Big Bang Theory unveils for the first time since 1980 a suite of 12 large-scale “myth” paintings described as “one of his most personal projects and a fascinating insight into Lye’s unique artistic vision”.

Completed during a burst of intense activity in his final years while living in New York and Puerto Rico, the oil and acrylic works capture Lye’s interest in ancient mythology and human identity – searching our primordial DNA for the “happiness acid”. govettbrewster.com
