Where: Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū
A series of human-like figures made from sustainably sourced Brazilian Amazon balata rubber form part of a new “complete environment” of works by London-based New Zealand contemporary artist Francis Upritchard.
Started during Upritchard’s stint as the inaugural W. A. Sutton House artist-in-residence in Ōtautahi, the show has a mixture of mediums and objects — playful, arresting, and strangely out of time.
Paper, Creature, Stone also includes ceramic works, figurative sculptures and watercolours – all new pieces from Upritchard will be on display until 24 July 2022
