The Rotary Club of Katikati has finalised its line-up of gardens for its 2023 Garden Ramble, set to be held the first weekend of November. On the lineup? Seventeen stops, comprising of a mix of old and new gardens and two nursery/garden combinations. A wide variety of gardens will be on show, ranging from large country gardens to small town gardens. This year there is an emphasis on art, and work by local artists will be found in several gardens. Most will be for sale and some gardeners will also be selling plants.

Garden lovers will enjoy a full weekend of garden viewing and shopping. The locality of the gardens range from Athenree in the North, suburban gardens in Katikati and Aongatete to the south.

Kings Seeds will be planning for the first time an open day during the Garden Ramble. They are a Katikati-based seed provider and are now the largest organically certified mail-order seed company in New Zealand. Their range of organically certified seeds has grown to include over 100 varieties and the varieties continue to grow and change each year.

The Katikati Garden Ramble is a celebration of the benefits of the benign climate and good soils of the area and the gardens that local gardeners have been able to establish featuring some interesting shrubs and perennials.

Arrangements are in motion to have a musical ensemble perform at one of the gardens to compliment the beauty and ambience of the surroundings. The vital spirit of the Garden Ramble is the quiet enjoyment and refreshing climate of the region.

“Fresh air and exercise” is an old mantra for health and happiness — and getting out in the open air is just a matter of opening the door into a country or suburban garden.
